What is a Forensic Document Examiner? |
A Forensic Document Examiner is often
known as a Questioned Document Examiner, but more commonly known
as a Handwriting Expert.
|
| What does a Forensic Document Examiner do? |
As a Forensic Document Examiner,
I perform the scientific examination of handwriting, typewritten
and machine made documents, ink and paper analysis, dating and
other related document problems. I specialize in handwriting/signature
comparisons. I examine questioned documents to see if the documents
or signatures have been altered or forged.
|
| Is Forensic Document Examination testimony accepted in courts? |
|
Yes, courts in the
United States have recognized questioned document examination
since the early 19th century.
|
| How long does it take to perform a forensic document examination? |
Generally, it takes
a week to ten days from the date the documents are received
to complete an examination. It may take a longer time depending
on the volume of documents submitted for examination and the
type of examination required.
If a rush examination
is required, there will be additional charges to cover the prioritization
of the case.
|
| Can you date ink? |
No, I will not attempt
to date inks. This procedure requires the services of an ink
chemist. The procedure usually entails limited destruction of
the document to be examined.
I will attempt to
differentiate one ink from another utilizing non-destructive
techniques.
